About

Welcome to the online home of Siri Paulson! I blog on Mondays about books, movies, and other things related to SF&F, Wednesdays about travel or life in general, and occasionally on Fridays.

I write all over the fantasy and science fiction spectrum, including (so far) secondary-world fantasy, urban fantasy, steampunk, historical paranormal, and YA with spaceships. Maybe someday I’ll pick one and settle down.

I grew up in Alberta, Canada, but now live in an old house in Toronto. My other current passion is contra dance, or folk dance done to live Celtic and roots music. My favourite places in the world are the Canadian Rocky Mountains and a little valley in Norway. In my other life, I edit non-fiction for the government.

Free Short Stories

As well, some of my short stories are available for free on the Turtleduck Press website:

“Still Waters Run Deep” (serial): Part 1, Part 2, Part 3, Part 4 …and look for the conclusion coming April 1! — Fantasy. An itinerant salesman plying jungle waterways learns that a malevolent force is destroying balance in the world…and if there is a solution, it lies in a city he fled years ago.

The Dangers of Creation; or, A Machine to Rival Man — Gothic/steampunk. A musician becomes obsessed with creating a mechanical instrument that can play as well as a human.

The Spirit Mask — Fantasy. A new shaman faces her first test. Sequel to the fantasy short story “The Long Night”, found in Winter’s Night.

Celestial Voices — Historical. In a time of plagues, a little girl dreams of singing.

Lonesome Hearts — Contemporary fiction. Aging folk singers and a town in mourning.

Engine Dreamer — Steampunk in space — enough said.

  1. Pingback: New blog coming online | Siri Paulson's Blog

  2. Hello,
We saw your blog on WordPress and we are very interested in working with you!
We are trying to launch an online newspaper (think HelloGiggles meets the Huffington Post). We are looking for writers around the world to contribute to our site. Whether it be one time, two months, or one year. The Coffee Courier is really run by journalists who have a passion for writing. For the most part, we really let you write what you want. However… For the first year, we want as little expenses as possible. Unfortunately that means we cannot pay any of our contributors right away. We understand that writing without pay kinda sucks, especially when you already are an established writer, but we would love you on our team. If you would like to be a guest writer or are interested in working with us, please email us at thecoffeecourier@gmail.com
    Thank you
